Scholarships available to Tertiary Students

Scholarships ranging in value from $575 to $10,000 are available to support current Tertiary students intending to continue their studies next year. Applicants are encouraged to apply for as many scholarships that they may be eligible for.


Australian Veterans Children Assistance Trust


Scholarship details
  • Administered by the Australian Veterans’ Children’s Assistance Trust (AVCAT)
  • Valued approximately $4,000-$6,000 per year
  • Available for up to three years full time study (conditions apply)
  • Multiple scholarships awarded each year

Who can apply?
  • Only students who are a child or grandchild of a person who has operational service (as defined by the legislation) or three or more years of continuous full-time service, as a member of the Australian Navy, Army or Air Force
  • Students who are enrolled (or planning to enrol) in a full-time undergraduate, tertiary course of one or more academic years duration by attendance at an Australian tertiary institution
  • Students in receipt of, or eligible to receive, Centrelink payments including Youth Allowance, ABSTUDY, Austudy or an accepted means-tested Commonwealth government payment
  • Students who are Australian residents

What documentation you need to provide?
  • Copy of your birth certificate
  • Copy of the Veteran's service record
  • Evidence of the applicant receiving Youth Allowance benefits for full-time study
  • Applicant’s confirmation of enrolment in a full-time course at an Australian university or TAFE – the course must be of one or more academic years in length at an undergraduate level
  • Copy of academic results for the last 18 months
  • A personal statement and Academic Referee Report

Charlotte Wilson Scholarship


Scholarship details
  • Sponsored by the Department of Education and Training
  • Valued at $1,500
  • Available for one year
  • One scholarship awarded each year

Who can apply?
  • Female students who are Australian citizens
  • Female students who complete their second year at the University of Melbourne in 2022 to qualify to become a primary teacher
  • Female students who have completed their VCE in a registered Victorian government school
  • Female students who demonstrate financial need

Documentation required
  • Applicant's 2022 University of Melbourne academic results
  • Evidence of the applicant receiving Youth Allowance and who is in receipt of either a valid Health Care Card, a Low Income Health Care Card or a Pensioner Concession Card (Centrelink Reference Number required)
  • Evidence that VCE was completed in a Victorian government school
  • Confirmation of re-enrolment for third year of teacher training in 2023 at Melbourne University. Applicants will be required to scan and email evidence to studentscholarships@education.vic.gov.au by 1 March 2023

Doris Evans Scholarship for students who complete 2nd year of primary teacher training in 2022


Scholarship details
  • Sponsored by the Department of Education and Training
  • Valued at $575
  • Available for one year
  • One scholarship awarded each year

Who can apply?
  • Female students who complete their second year of teacher training in 2022 at an accredited tertiary institution in Victoria to qualify as a teacher of primary-aged children
  • Female students who will undertake their third year of teacher training in 2023 at an accredited tertiary institution in Victoria to qualify as a teacher of primary-aged children
  • Female students who have completed their VCE in a registered Victorian non-metropolitan government school
  • Female students who are not holders of any other scholarships
  • Female students who demonstrate financial need

What to include with your application
  • Applicant's 2022 end-of-year academic results
  • Evidence of the applicant receiving Youth Allowance (Centrelink Reference Number required)
  • VCE results and evidence that VCE was completed in a Victorian non-metropolitan government school
  • Enrolment confirmation of third year teacher training in a tertiary institution for 2023 should be scanned and emailed to studentscholarships@education.vic.gov.au by 1 March 2023

Frederick Richard O’Connell Scholarship for year 12 students


Scholarship details
  • Administered by Equity Trustees Limited
  • Valued at up to $5,000 per scholarship
  • Available for one year

Who can apply?
  • Students commencing or continuing a full-time degree or accredited course at a Victorian university
  • Students who demonstrate good character, personality, academic achievement and proficiency at sport

What to include with your application
  • Confirmation of enrolment in an approved degree or accredited course at a Victorian university
  • Evidence of the applicant's parent/guardian Timber Merchants Association (Victoria) membership details (if applicable)

The AusIMM EEF Scholarships


Scholarship details
  • Administered by the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM) Education Endowment Fund
  • Valued at $11,000 per year for the AusIMM EEF Premium Scholarships and $15,000 per year for a Sir Frank Espie/Rio Tinto Leadership Award
  • Scholarships are awarded for the length of undergraduate study until graduation, providing the student continues to meet the scholarship criteria. An Honours year is classed as an undergraduate year

Who can apply?
  • Students studying in an AusIMM recognised course
  • Students must be Australian residents or hold permanent resident visas
  • All applicants must clearly demonstrate their intent to work in the industry, evidence industry related work experience and hold current membership of the AusIMM

What documentation you need to provide?
  • An application letter detailing suitability and desire to hold an AusIMM EEF Scholarship and addressing the Sir Frank Espie/Rio Tinto Leadership Scholarship criteria
  • Full university results to date
  • A full CV/resume detailing study achievements, work experience and other activities
  • Any other documentation which may support the application, such as work references and certificates
