There are strong connections between the LOTE and the Communication domains.
Language learning is all about communication. Learners listen to, read and view language in varying text types. Learners respond to ideas and information in the language. Learners present ideas and information using various text types in the language.
Teachers already focus on communication skills when designing language programs. To use the LOTE successfully, students apply the skills that are made explicit in the Communication domain. There is value in including a deliberate focus on the skills of listening, reading, responding and presenting.
LOTE teachers should also give students the opportunity to present information, ideas and opinions in a range of forms, including verbal, written, graphic, multimedia and performance, appropriate to context, purpose and audience.
