Fitness for duty
Select the relevant employment category below for policy and procedures to be followed when a principal or manager has concerns about an employee’s fitness or capacity to discharge the duties of his or her position on account of physical or mental incapacity.
It should be noted that an employee who has ceased employment on the grounds of ill health may be eligible for disability benefits through the superannuation scheme of which he/she is a member. In circumstances where an employee is considering ceasing duty on the grounds of ill health it is strongly advised that the employee contact their superannuation scheme. Members of the defined benefits schemes (New, Revised or SERB) managed by Emergency Services and State Super (ESSS) can access benefit entitlement information on the ESSS website
An employee may be eligible for pay in lieu of long service leave after 4 years service where satisfactory evidence is provided that the retirement is due to ill health which is likely to be permanent.
