DEECD People Principles

The Public Administration Act 2004 established a set of values and employment principles that the Victorian Government views as critical to maintaining a high performing and trusted public sector. These values and principles underpin the relationship public sector employees have with the Government, the community and each other.

The quality of these relationships helps to determine the public sector's reputation and is an essential component of an Ethics Framework (http://www.ssa.vic.gov.au/CA2571410025903D/WebObj/EthicsFramework/$File/EthicsFramework.pdf) published by the State Services Authority. That publication an ethics framework for applying the Victorian public sector values, principles, codes and standards complements the DEECD People Principles which were developed and adopted by the Department in 2002.

The DEECD People Principles provide a framework that guides the way we work with each other and with those to whom we provide advice and services. The principles apply to all people and all work of the Department.

They inform all our interactions within and external to the organisation.

  • The inform and underpin the DEECD VPS Accountability and Capability Framework.
  • They are used as we plan recruitment and as we select people for positions.
  • They are used in the induction of new staff so that new members of the organisation understand and commit to our expectations.
  • They are the basis of our learning, training and development.
  • They underpin performance management and assessment in DEECD.

What do the DEECD People Principles mean?

DELIVER QUALITY RESULTS means striving to do things better, setting challenging goals and continuously to deliver the best possible outcomes consistent with the goals and targets laid down by Government.
