School Nurses

The Nurses (Department of Education and Early Childhood Development) Agreement 2008 (Word - 600Kb) commenced operation on 12 December 2008 with an expiry date of 1 March 2009. The Agreement covers nurses employed in schools under the Public Administration Act 2004 (Vic) and employees on the Maternal and Child Health Information Line (MCHIL).

Following in principle agreement on 5 May 2009 in respect to the new Victorian Public Service agreement, negotiations commenced on a new agreement for school nurses and MCHIL employees.  The Department has reached 'in principle' agreement with the Australian Nursing Federation and the Community and Public Sector Union and is currently undertaking an approval process.  This involves:

  • The posting of the proposed agreement and information about the agreement on the department's website at http://www.eduweb.vic.gov.au/hrweb/employcond/res/newagree.htm ;
  • A ballot of employees (ballot papers forwarded to employees by the Australian Electoral Commission) that closes on 23 October 2009; and
  • If the proposed agreement is approved by a valid majority of employees the Department will apply to Fair Work Australia to have the agreement approved.

The documents below provide further information about the proposed workplace agreement and the approval process:
