Intensive-Care Allowance – Education Support Class
An education support class employee, employed in a special school, who provides intensive attendant care, administers medical support or assists in the development of independent living skills for individual students or groups of students is entitled to be paid an intensive-care allowance.
A full-time education support class employee providing intensive attendant care support in a special school is entitled to payment of an intensive care allowance of $325 per annum (effective from 1 April 2011)
A part-time employee eligible for the intensive care allowance receives payment on a pro rata basis relative to a full-time employee.
An employee undertaking medical intervention responsibilities at Level 1, Range 2 or above is not entitled to payment of the intensive care allowance.
The payment of the intensive care allowance to an employee should continue during a period of leave, provided that the duties and responsibilities associated with the allowance would have continued had the leave not been approved.
