Teacher Demand
Victorian government schools particularly need qualified teachers in a range of curriculum areas who are willing to teach where vacancies exist. The demand for new teaching staff in Victorian schools is forecast to average 3,420 teachers each year up until 2013.
While secondary teachers are needed over the whole range of school subjects, the areas that have the greatest opportunities for employment include: Mathematics, Science (General Science, Physics), Languages Other Than English (LOTE) especially Indonesian, Italian, French, Japanese and German), and Information Technology subjects.
Special education teachers and primary teachers with qualifications in LOTE, physical education or music are much in demand.
These recruitment requirements are often additional to those required to cover attrition and replacement.
