A student who is progressing towards the Level 2 Reading Standard and who is presently at 1.5

Can predict what might happen next in a story read independently

Student: ‘One boy was running around with a can of paint. ‘Oh no’, said Chug, ‘I must tell Jack, but how can I wake him up?’

Teacher: ‘What do you think is going to happen now in the story?’

Student: ‘Um… the… Jack wakes up.’

Teacher: ‘Do you think Jack will wake up?’

Student: Yep. And then he sees the police catch the boys.’……

Student: ‘But just then a police car stopped outside the Park gates. ‘Look Dad,’ shouted Jack, ‘the police have got all the boys’. ‘Good work Jack’, said Dad, ‘You helped to catch them’

Teacher: ‘So you predicted that Jack would wake up and that the police might come, and is that what happened?

Student: ‘Yep’
