Discrimination and Harassment

The Department has a responsibility to ensure that all staff maintain high standards of conduct and performance. These standards are reflected in Department policy and guidelines, codes of conduct and federal and state equal opportunity and anti-discrimination legislation.

It is the responsibility of the manager/principal to provide a healthy and positive work environment free from discrimination and harassment.

Training

The Department is committed to ensuring that all schools and Department workplaces are free from discrimination and sexual harassment.

In accordance with the Department’s diversity, equal opportunity and sexual harassment policies, discrimination and sexual harassment will not be tolerated in any school or Department workplace.

To increase staff awareness and understanding of employer and employee obligations, rights and responsibilities under Commonwealth and State anti-discrimination and equal opportunity laws, an online Workplace Discrimination and Sexual Harassment training course is made available to all employees.

It is expected that all Department employees who have not previously completed the course, including school council employees, will use the opportunity to undertake this online training course.

All employees are expected to successfully complete the online discrimination and harassment training.

The course takes approximately two hours to complete (depending on prior knowledge) and participants may undertake it at a time of their choice for any duration that is convenient.

The Department provides this staff workplace discrimination and sexual harassment e-learning course as one of a range of initiatives to ensure safe, inclusive and productive workplaces.
