using the directory

Kindergarten is the name given to the learning program for four year old children. The year of kindergarten is the year before your child starts school. If your child turns four years old by 30 April, they can go to kindergarten. The State Government gives funding to kindergartens.

Kindergarten programs can be provided in different places, such as community kindergartens, child care centres or some schools. This directory will help you locate a kindergarten program. Simply begin your search by typing in your postcode, local government area or suburb.

If you are seeking to find a kindergarten program in a long day care setting, use the advanced search. If a long day care setting is not an option in your chosen locality, it means a kindergarten in a long day care program may not currently be available in this area.

about kindergartens

Sample kindergarten certificate
sample kindergarten certificate

All funded kindergarten programs display a kindergarten certificate. This certificate shows that the service offers a kindergarten program that has been developed and delivered by a qualified early childhood teacher and funded by the State Government.

Make sure your kindergarten has a kindergarten certificate. Services also display a notice with kindergarten times  and the name of the teachers delivering the program.

In a kindergarten program that is funded by the government, children are taught by a qualified early childhood teacher. Research shows that quality kindergarten programs improve a child’s future learning, health and development.
